I don't know if older versions of Windows use something different. Reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel /v "" /t REG_DWORD /d 0īoth key names suggest to me that they're probably from Windows 8/2012 era or later. So perhaps a slightly cleaner way to do this is with a Registry entry. I've found the desk.cpl method can sometimes remove the default wallpaper if one was set.
